Engage the Senses: Make Your Stories Come Alive

nonverbal communication opening statement senses storytelling Jun 11, 2024

As you seek to connect with your audience and to engage them in compelling ways, you must not ignore the opportunity to appeal to their SENSES.

Often your case facts and story details are not readily relatable to jurors. Not many have experienced the same things that you're outlining to them.

But they, perhaps, HAVE experienced similar sensations that accompany your material.

Help them relate to your content (case facts, story details, etc) by allowing them to tap into the sensory details, to immerse themselves in your presentation.

Take the time to vividly describe sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures.

Engaging multiple sensory channels will help to transport your audience into the heart of your story, making it more tangible and memorable.

Because your story can now anchor to the common experiences of sensation (perhaps on multiple levels), you create a lasting impression that goes beyond the intellectual.
